Groupe Banques Populaires

The Groupe Banques Populaires  has a three-level pyramid structure:

  • Comité Directeur: the management body of Groupe Banques Populaires defines the general policy and supervises its implementation.
  • Banque Centrale Populaire: the central element of the regional Banques Populaires ensures execution of decisions made by the Comité Directeur at the level of the regional banks and is responsible for technical, administrative and financial supervision.
  • Banques Populaires Régionales: the regional banks, 13 in total, are cooperative savings and loan associations with variable capital and decision-making.

Groupe Banques Populaires had the following market shares in the Moroccan banking system in 2000:

  • Deposits: 29,76%
  • Credits: 19,51%
  • Network: 25%
  • Customers: 50%
